Sadly it was not the best of days for Group 1 against Group 6 losing 4 points to 8
I am certain we had the team to beat them and still have every faith in our squad.
However we win and lose as a squad so we forget it and move on.
When I say squad I do mean squad so would personally like to thank the reserves for turning up yet again.
Thank you Gavin Cowell, Mark Dines & Alfie Comerford along with Andy Smith

Group 1 in the last game of the round Robin seemed to be up against it with Group 6 suggesting they only needed to turn up and make the final by also playing all their reserves.
Group 1 also rewarded every member of the squad for their dedication over the three weeks by making sure every squad member had at least one game in the Ashford Cup not doubting the strength of our squad.
Throughout the game there were some close fought battles with some excellent bowls being played by both teams.
There were some close scores on numerous rinks but thankfully Group 1 prevailed 5 rinks to 1 giving an overall win of 10 points to 2 in Group 1’s favour.
A big thankyou to Group 9 who were fantastic opposition and company throughout the morning.
At the end of the game Group 1 did not know if they had done enough to make the final until the result came through from Group 6 against Group 2.
Surprisingly Group 6 lost 4 points to 8 on their own green allowing Group 1 to make the final.
Well done everyone involved

Selecting the team to represent Group 1 was not an easy task and I understand the reserves will be disappointed.
All reserves are still part of the squad and valued members in Group 1 getting to the final so please be there on the day.
From all at Group One we wish Russell a very speedy recovery.
I am pleased to announce Russell is now out of Hospital and on the road to a full recovery.
Take it easy Russell and all the best from all at Group 1
Ashford Cup Final Sunday 27th July
Firstly a big thank you to Braintree Bowls Club for their superb hosting of the final.
The Green was very good and the Kitchen staff kept everyone fed and watered before the game.
A special thank you to Pat Finney who is retiring from Ashford Cup duties after 20 plus years excellent service.
Regarding the game itself it could not have gone better for Group 1 throughout most of the game.
Eventually Group 1 won the Final 10 points to 2 to win the Ashford Cup for the first time since 2016.
In every final there has to be a runner up and sadly it was Group 4 this year.
However I must applaud Group 4 in the way the final was played with a fantastic atmosphere on the green throughout the entire game from both groups.
Congratulations Group 1 from a very proud Chairman.
